The West Oakland Job Resource Center (WOJRC) is a non-profit, 501©(3), organization whose mission is committed to transforming the lives of underserved residents of West Oakland and the greater Bay Area by building a thriving, inclusive community that provides financial and economic opportunities, and by catalyzing industry and policy changes.

 

WOJRC is seeking a highly self-motivated individual who is flexible, can multi-task, can work under pressure, requires minimal supervision, and can work in a team setting. The successful candidate should have prior job development and career coaching experience. 

Position Summary: This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) non-exempt salary position in the West Oakland Job Resource Center. This is an “At Will'' position. The Job Development/Career Coach reports directly to the Assistant Director and will provide programmatic assistance to meet the operational needs of WORJC. The goals for the Job Development/Career Coach are to recruit clients and assist them in securing employment in the construction and transportation, distribution, and logistics industries.

The Job Development/Career Coach works with a team of Financial and Career Coaches, and is responsible for recruiting and managing a caseload of 40-50 clients per year. The Job Development/Career Coach will recruit, assist in industry training, help clients enter unions and apprenticeship programs, and secure employment in our targeted industries. In addition, the Job Development/Career Coach will coordinate, and refer clients to our Financial Coaches. The Job Development/Career Coach is responsible for building on-going industry knowledge and relationships and conducting cold calling to introduce our programs and services to potential employers or union representatives. This function is critical to helping our clients navigate the registration or application process to enroll in apprenticeship programs, or for employment.

Lastly, the Job Development/Career Coach will be asked to participate in different community events, be responsible for building relationships with community partners, assist in various organization workshops and events, and perform data tracking and entry in a number of different data collection platforms. 

Job Duties:& Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach and recruitment activities;
  • Facilitate client orientations;
  • Perform client in-take and assessment;
  • Conduct Job Readiness Training;
  • Provide client follow-up and retention services;
  • Perform job development, job referral, and job placement services;
  • Data entry and client update information in Salesforce and other database systems;
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual client progress reports;

  • Experiences in recruiting and working with a diverse population

  • Strong case management and follow-up skills
  • Strong data tracking experiences 
  • Strong communication and written skills
  • Good time management, ability to prioritize, and is well-organized

  • Must be a self-starter

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements  

• 2-year’s college education in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Family/Consumer 

Science, Human Services, Education, Criminology, Counseling, Sales 

  • Education experiences can be substituted by two years of job development, job placement, and career coaching experiences. 

• Must be flexible and able to work early, late evening hours or weekends

  • Must be willing to travel

• Strong data tracking experience with different database systems 

• Sound written and verbal communication skills 

• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks 

  • Being bilingual is a plus 

COMPENSATION 

• Salary Range: $52,000 - $56,000, depending on experience 

• Full Benefits with Paid Time off (PTO)
