Full Time: 100% FTE, 40 hours per week

Compensation: $20.19 - 22.21 per hour, non-exempt

Location(s): Work from the Watsonville Center three days out of the week and from the Gilroy Center two days a week. Instructor roles are eligible for a hybrid work schedule after successful completion of their first 90 days of employment and only during off-season programming seasons.

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed thousands of youth from working-class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. It is an exciting time for the NEST. We are focused on growth and expansion to five communities across The Monterey Bay and San Joaquin Valley Regions in Northern California by the end of 2026. Digital NEST has Centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy and Modesto. The final Digital NEST Center is expected to launch in Stockton in the summer of 2024.

The Marketing Instructor will support the growth of the People, Projects & Leadership (PPL) program by leading the development and implementation of the training for the marketing pathway. Overall, this position recruits, instructs, advises, mentors, and coaches members in technical and professional (soft) skills development for that pathway, and will support the Project Management Instructor in implementing the project management pathway as needed. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development and Delivery (60%)

  • Plan and execute yearly programs in the Digital Marketing concentration for the PPL pathway that can scale across all Digital NEST centers.
  • Create, develop and implement Marketing curriculum in alignment with the bizzNEST program and industry standards. 
  • Continuously review and revise curriculum materials to ensure it is aligned with the latest industry standards and best practices. Regularly incorporate updates from current trends in the field.
  • Facilitate marketing trainings to support youth in developing foundational skills in the field of Marketing that will prepare them for a career in marketing.
  • Effectively incorporate and embed professional (soft) skills and leadership curriculum into all lessons and activities and teach professional (soft) skill development to members. Coach/mentor youth with the goal of challenging, encouraging and supporting them in achieving paid, on-the-job trainee positions as interns in the bizzNEST program.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of members progress and report this progress to the PPL Program Manager and VP of Programs.
  • Hold members accountable for their behavior during training by establishing and teaching behavioral standards and providing coaching and feedback in accordance with the NEST-Ed professional skills curriculum. 
  • Prepare rooms and equipment for classes, workshops, and other learning activities.
  • Support Manager in monitoring industry trends and advancements to ensure curriculum remains cutting-edge, relevant to evolving job market demands, and aligned with larger programmatic goals. 
  • Provide fundamental positive youth development services to members, including: advising, mentoring, emotional encouragement and support, informal academic and career advising and instrumental assistance in career development and job placement.

Member Engagement and Recruitment (30%)

  • Build relationships with teachers, counselors at high schools and community colleges, as well as community leaders, to identify potential members interested in PPL and NEST Programs. 
  • Identify prospective participants and cultivate member engagement in the marketing (PPL) program; maintain a student information system to track member participation and engagement and produce reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Watsonville Hub and PPL Pathway team to develop and execute youth outreach activities including participating in tabling events, delivering presentations in classrooms, and any other engagement opportunities.
  • Actively collaborate with the Watsonville Hub to organize site engagement events and take part in weekly check-in meetings to strategize recruitment and member engagement. 
  • Assist in development and execution of engagement events in Watsonville and Gilroy as needed.
  • Offer essential youth development services to members, encompassing guidance, mentorship, and career advice, monitoring members status and wellbeing, sharing observations across program staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to coordinate and assist with recruitment of PPL trainees while providing assistance to recruitment efforts of other programs as needed.

Key Member of the Digital NEST Program Team (10%)

  • Represent the NEST in a professional, constructive and compelling manner to stakeholders at meetings, on social media, at public events and in media products or written publications. 
  • Provide general support to fundraising efforts expected of all staff: showcase members and member work, speak articulately about programming and be a model representative and evangelist for Digital NEST in the community.
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures (e.g. keeps calendars and other documentation up-to-date, attends mandatory meetings); proactively and promptly communicates problems with policies and procedures to the supervisor.
  • Serve as a role model for Members regarding career aspirations, becoming tech-savvy and social enterprise; live by and uphold our work community’s values and codes of conduct.
  • Participate in NEST evening and weekend programs and events on an occasional basis; facilitate youth involvement in these programs and events. 
  • Transport herself/himself to NEST facilities and to outreach locations.
  • Performs other duties and tasks assigned by the supervisor. 
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years of full-time, formal experience or industry recognized credentials in a related field in marketing. 
  • At least 1 year of full-time experience teaching youth using culturally responsive experiential learning pedagogies and instructional methods. 
  • Excellent classroom management skills, preferably learned or previously applied in an out-of-school program setting.
  • Experience working with young adults ages 14 - 24.
  • Demonstrates qualities of flexibility and adaptability in teaching and professional setting.
  • Ability to connect positively with youth; a positive, engaging and authentic presence.
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with manager and coworkers across all departments.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership in regards to time management of assigned tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured automobile.
 

PREFERRED, BUT-NOT-REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual/Biliterate English and Spanish
