FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of temporary, full time Instructor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences. FVSU, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. Job Summary

This position is full-time, non-tenure track with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2024. We expect to fill two vacancies with this announcement. These positions will teach undergraduate face-to-face English courses (and fully online or hybrid format undergraduate English courses as needed).
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach English courses, primarily Composition I and Composition II (and World Literature I and II as needed). Teaching load is 12-15 credit hours.
  • Instructors must be present on campus a minimum of three (3) days per week and maintain no fewer than ten (10) office hours per week.
  • Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement.Provides advisement, and academic support to students as Maintains classes related records and assesses student Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular Participates in departmental, college, and university required
Minimum Qualifications
  • 18 graduate hours in English course work or specifically related area.
  • Experience teaching in a traditional classroom setting.
  • Documented ability to teach.
  • Documented ability to foster relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
